La Jolla Wedding Bowl Cuvier Park Ceremony and Hornblower Reception
What was supposed to be a stress free and fun La Jolla wedding ceremony at the wedding bowl (Cuvier Park on Cuvier St and Coast Blvd), turned out to be a stressful evening aboard a boat on the San Diego Bay in the rain and wind.
The plan was to have the wedding ceremony at Cuvier Park La Jolla, do the family and romantic photos also there after the wedding ceremony at the reefs and beach, and then finally head to San Diego Bay aboard a Hornblower yacht for a fun evening of dancing and eating as we cruise around the bay.
RAIN was predicted for the day with only a 50% chance by the evening. The morning of the wedding day the prediction changed to 80% and it was supposed to begin by the early afternoon. Well in reality, the rain started just after they were done with the ceremony and we were not able to do any of the romantic shots. We escaped the rain and tried to wait in cars hoping that there would be a break in the downpour, but no luck. I could see the look of dissapointment in the bride’s eyes so we made plans that I would return the next day and we would do their La Jolla beach and reef shots free of charge.
So, we went to the Hornblower and had a great time in the rain and just as fast as the storm came in, it also left so we went out under the stars for the rest of the reception. I even managed to capture some great stormy sunset shots of the couple at the bow of the boat.
The next day I showed up again at Cuvier Park, and so did the bride and groom fully dressed and looking exactly like they did the day before. They also had all of their family with them so we were able to do all of their family photos and romantic shots as if we never got raind out the day before. So when you look at the photos, you’re actually looking at a wedding that took a day and a half to shoot! There were very greatful that I did the make up seession for them free of charge that they tipped me very well and still send me thank you’s every once in a while.
