Palomar Hotel Down Town San Diego
Located close to The House of Blues San Diego, the Palomar Hotel San Diego is a very modern and lavish hotel to have your wedding reception and ceremony.
We started the day with the prep shots in the hotel, and for the first look bridal reveal, we used the oversized swinging door at the entrance. We had the groom with his back to the door and had the bride do the same but from the opposite side so that they can hold hands without seeing each other. If you`re wondering, yes he was happily surprised.
Prior to the ceremony we traveled to Petco Park San Diego for some fun photos with the stadium and all those beautiful red brick buildings in the background. After Petco we then went to do some photos by the famous sign on 5th ave “Welcome to the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter”.
The wedding ceremony was held in the newly remodeled patio and pool deck area which was beautifuly decorated and even had custom flower arrangements floating in the pool. At the time of the ceremony, the sun was behind and slightly above the wedding couple which meant that just about every photo that was taken was done looking into the sun. In addition to the direct sun, we also had the reflexion of the sun bouncing off of the pool. At this point let me just say that this ceremony was by far the most difficult ceremony we ever had to photograph. Luckily the flashes we use are very high power and so we were able to make it look beautiful, but it ws not easy. Any photographer that just shoots with natural light would have been in big trouble. My best advice to any of you reading this and planning your wedding at the Palomar, be sure to check the position of the sun at the time of your cremony to void this scenario.
The reception was held in the ballroom where we had the benefit of a live band playing for our entertainment. We find that having a live band at a wedding reception always adds an extra layer of fun to any event since it makes your reception into your own private concert!
